Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
