19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player won his first trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
