The Reason this Democratic Party Has Concealed its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: An Analysis.

This move by the Democratic National Committee to block the public viewing regarding its own post-election analysis on the 2024 election seems shocking yet entirely predictable. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the DNC often functions more like a publicity machine rather than a political organization committed to cultivating local power to secure victories.

A Climate of Conformity

Unwilling to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the committee has remained under that legacy throughout this past year. Releasing an official autopsy could have demonstrated that party leaders are interested to promote open debate regarding the strategic failures which allowed the former president to win re-election. Yet, the DNC is proceeding as if there are no lessons to glean from the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

The top priority: does this help us win? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," a rationale which was presented to justify concealing the report.

Critical Problems an Analysis Would Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem worth its salt would tackle head-on key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: The loss among millions of voters that backed the Democratic ticket in 2020 became a critical factor during the tight 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined insistence by a party leader to seek re-election, coupled with a last-minute exit, has been criticized as denying the party's base of open primaries.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: Amid economic anxiety, the campaign allegedly ceding to elite contributors without successfully attempting to confront the role of profit-seeking.
  • The Gaza Factor: The failure to adjust an approach regarding the situation in Gaza allegedly caused alienating significant blocs, especially among young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Support: Extensive evidence shows a major drop-off in votes for the candidate among the youth electorate.

A History of Evasion

Choosing secrecy aligns with a longstanding habit of evading hard truths. This mirrors an episode where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Washington went along with an incumbent's decision for running for re-election until a catastrophic campaign event compelled a change.

Concurrently, a significant majority within the party's base had been repeatedly informing pollsters that they opposed that candidate to be the nominee.

Campaign Spending Concerns

A substantive report could probe issues regarding campaign spending, including how much money were directed to high-priced advisors as well as advertising contractors over the course of a campaign that managed to spend a colossal amount in a short period.

A Larger Implication

Ultimately, the suppression of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a submission to party leaders who engineered a losing electoral effort. The message to rank-and-file members – which includes countless small donors – appears to be that they cannot be trusted to know the lessons the insiders claim to have learned from an analysis based on extensive interviews.

A party incapable to critically review its own failings is unlikely to break free from the rut that proved so advantageous to their opponents.
